Graduates told to enjoy the day, but look to the future

Twenty-three students walked across the Grand Island Senior High auditorium stage Thursday afternoon as "the first graduates of the class of 2010."

The students were accompanied on that solitary walk by the applause of family members and friends who had come to see them receive their high school diplomas as part of mid-term graduation ceremonies.

In addition to getting that prized diploma, each newly minted graduate received a rose and congratulations from Superintendent Steve Joel, Senior High Principal Kent Mann and several Grand Island school board members who attended the ceremony.

Joel, who recently returned from a fact-finding trip about the Chinese educational system, gave the graduation address.  Full Story
