GPS program appears worth continuing, Rathke says

Heartland United Way President Karen Rathke says preliminary indications make her believe that the GPS program that uses the “8 to Great” curriculum for adjudicated youths should be continued.

Rathke said measurements such as attendance, office referrals and grades seem to show enough improvement to warrant continuing the program.

She said there also is anecdotal evidence from Grand Island Senior High officials that students are making better decisions when it comes to their reactions to stressful situations.

As a result, Rathke said, the Heartland United Way would consider another small grant to benefit Senior High.  Full Story
