The veterans memorial plaque at Grand Island Senior High’s Memorial Stadium was cleaned up almost as soon as vandalism was reported several weeks ago, according to Dan Petsch, GIPS director of operations and maintenance.

Petsch said he had people out to clean the plaque within 15 minutes of receiving the vandalism report. He said the plaque, which contains the names of Hall County veterans who had died fighting in either World War I or World War II, was egged.

"We were very upset with that occurrence," he said

He said the cleanup work done by GIPS employees restored the plaque to its condition before it was egged.

Nobody in the Grand Island school system has talked about moving the plaque to a more secure location, Petsch said. He said he believes the veterans plaque should stay right where it is.  Full Story
