Grand Island Senior High will be changing the way it administers tests at the end of the first semester — tests now will be given during a regular eight-period school day.

Interim Principal Doug Jensen proposed the change because he believes it provides additional instructional time between teachers and students.

Jensen said Senior High has always experimented with how it gives end-of-semester exams. The most recent format has been to change the school day from eight 55-minute classes to a block schedule with 90-minute periods during test week.

Under that format, all the school’s math tests would be administered at the same time, all its English tests at the same time, and so on.

“You might have a schedule where you have science and history tests in the morning and elective tests in the afternoon,” Jensen said. “The next day, you might have English tests and math tests in the morning and tests for elective courses in the afternoon.”  Full Story
