Grand Island Public Schools’ high ability learners program has been visiting the Nebraska Nature & Visitor Center this week as one of its two seminars.

"We try to do two seminars per year, and this seminar we chose to come to the center," said Stacy Vogel, Westridge Middle School integration specialist. "The events have been fantastic. We are really pleased to have been out here. It has been well organized, and it’s nice for the kids to discover how much they like the outdoors."

Events scheduled for the trip include sweep netting for insects in two prairies for a population study, taking water samples from the pond and looking at them under microscopes, a Crane Card Chronicles activity, testing frogs in the Platte River, a beanbag-dropping activity and a solar system distance demonstration. The event and most of the activities were lead by Dan Glomski, assistant director at the center.  Full Story
