GIPS staff honored in opening ceremonies

Three teachers, a specialist, a nonteaching staff member and an administrator were honored before their colleagues as the Grand Island Public Schools staff held opening ceremonies for the 2009-10 school year.

Joan Brown of Engleman Elementary was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year, Jerome Dubas of Walnut Middle School was named the Middle School Teacher of the Year, Doug Whitman of Grand Island Senior High was honored as Senior High Teacher of the Year, Jan Tell of Dodge Elementary was cited as Specialist of the Year, Robert Briseno of Walnut Middle School was named the Non-Teaching Staff Member of the Year, and Doug Wolfe of Newell Elementary was named the Administrator of the Year.

The Grand Island Education Foundation and Platte Valley State Bank sponsor the annual recognition.

Each person received a plaque and a monetary reward for their accomplishments.  Full Story
