GIPS school board approves budget, property tax levies

The Grand Island school board approved the 2011-12 school budget and the property tax levies needed to support its plan for the current year at its September board meeting Thursday evening.

The board had a one-hour budget work session prior to the start of its regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Kneale Administration Building. No one from the general public spoke at either the public hearing for the budget or the public hearing on the proposed property taxes.

The votes on the budget and tax levies essentially ratified decisions made earlier this spring when the school board held Town Hall meetings and budget workshops to prepare the budget, which had to be trimmed because of a multi-million dollar cut in state aid.  Full Story
