Change in state law means parents need to turn in formal application if they seek early entry for their children

Parents who want early entry for their children going into kindergarten this fall have a Feb. 10 deadline to turn in their application to the Kneale Administration Building.

The need to turn in a formal application is the result of LB1006, a state law that revised the age requirement for students entering kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year.

A child who turns age 5 on or before July 31 can automatically enter kindergarten this year, according to the revised legislation.

However, a child who turns 5 on any date from Aug. 1 through Oct. 15 must have his or her parents fill out an early-entry application and turn it in to the associate superintendent's office at the Kneale Administration Building, 123 S. Webb Road.  Full Story
