Gamboa, Deuel among Thursday’s Multicultural Coalition honorees

GRAND ISLAND —
Rodrigo Gamboa, Vikki Deuel and the Grand Island Public Library were recognized at the Multicultural Coalition's annual fall conference Thursday.

Gamboa, who works with Legal Aid of Nebraska, was named Multicultural Person of the Year. He has been the driving force behind Grand Island's Latino soccer program, making the sport available for many Hispanic youths in the community.

Deuel, who recently retired after serving as principal at Walnut Middle School for 17 years, was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Active in Grand Island Public Schools for more than 35 years, she is credited with excellent leadership in integrating Walnut's many diverse cultures.

Library Director Steve Fosselman accepted the Multicultural Organization of the Year award.  Full Story
