GRAND ISLAND —
A
snapshot of first-day enrollment in the Grand Island public schools
shows K-12 enrollment is up by 257 students over the official
enrollment last year.
Jim Werth, assistant superintendent for student services, said official
enrollment is reported to the Nebraska Department of Education on the
last Friday in September.
He said the first-day enrollment published by the Grand Island public
schools is based on registrations, not actual head count of the
students who showed up for school on the first day.
According to those registrations, the district has 8,207 students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
It has 8,530 students when preschool students are counted.
On Wednesday afternoon, Werth said three more students were registered
during the day, so K-12 enrollment and the overall increase can each be
boosted by another three students.
