Traci Skalberg of the Grand Island Education Foundation has started a “Stargazing” program that is designed to boost the morale of Grand Island Public Schools staff during the final eight weeks of the school year.
“We know this is a tough time in education,” said Skalberg in reference to this spring’s budget discussions that have focused on how to deal with an expected shortfall in state aid to the school district. “People who serve kids feel hurt when programs get cut.”
“We wanted to promote what a good staff we have,” Skalberg said.
The Grand Island Education Foundation and Platte Valley State Bank have had a program to recognize an annual Elementary, Middle School and High School Teacher of the Year. The program also recognizes an Administrator of the Year, as well as a Specialist or Counselor of the Year and a Non-teaching Staff Member of the Year.
