It now appears that the Grand Island school board will be asked to approve reduction-in-force notices for eight teachers when the board gets together for its regular monthly meeting on April 14.
That was the result of Wednesday evening’s school board budget work session.
Those reduction-in-force notices apparently will be issued to five math teachers at the middle school and high school level. Those changes are being made mostly because of changes to the middle school schedule that will cut math from 90-minute periods to 55-minute periods.
Science instruction, meanwhile, will be increased and combined with technology, with that program getting new technology modules for middle school students.
The other RIFs will include one elementary teacher, one middle school family and consumer science teacher who is being replaced by a Senior High family and consumer science teacher who is being reassigned, and one Success Academy teacher who is being replaced by a middle school math teacher who is being reassigned to the Success Academy.
