GRAND ISLAND —
The buses may be traveling on pavement, but Grand Island Public Schools Business Manager Virgil Harden said the school district's inaugural transportation plan could best be described as fluid.

Harden said only Grand Island Senior High has turned in a prospective list of bus stops for its students, while Barr Middle School and Walnut Middle School have yet to do so.

He said a route also must be figured out for a possible elementary school bus route.

The only thing certain at this point is that the bus routes are part of the district's "poverty plan" and are intended to cut down on student absenteeism and student tardies.

The only other certain thing is that the bus routes will not be limited to students who receive a free or reduced-price school lunch, Harden said. At this point, any student in the district will be able to ride a bus, regardless of income.  Full Story
