Robin Dexter, Grand Island Public Schools assistant superintendent for student services, is taking a two-week trip to China.

Dexter said she is going to China with a group of American educators through a program funded by the Confucious Institute at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Numerous American universities have their own Confucious Institutes, a program of Hanban, the Office of Chinese Language Council International. The Hanban/Confucious Institute Headquarters website says it "is committed to providing Chinese language and cultural teaching resources and services worldwide."

Dexter said she and other educators will spend their first week in Beijing. She said morning classes will be spent learning about Chinese culture. Afternoons and evenings will be used for sight-seeing and meetings with Chinese government officials.

During her second week, Dexter said, she will travel to the city of Xi'an. She said she will spend the mornings visiting Chinese schools, with the afternoons and evenings devoted to taking tours of the area.  Full Story
