The Grand Island school board will be asked Thursday to approve a contract with George Copa to act as a consultant as local school officials and citizens make curriculum and building plans for a proposed Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC). It will go into the former Pentair manufacturing building.

Copa, project director of New Designs for Learning in Salem, Ore., is to work with 30 to 40 people from the Grand Island area to develop a "learning plan" that involves the courses, curriculum and building plans for the former manufacturing plant.

The Design Team will include students, parents, school board members, school administrators, school counselors, teachers, business and industry leaders, labor, city government, various levels of education including higher education such as Central Community College, and professional organizations such as the chamber of commerce.

Design Team members will be asked to get together for six meetings during this school year, with each meeting scheduled to last six hours.  Full Story
