Virgil Harden, finance director for the Grand Island Public Schools, will present a 2011-12 budget report to the Grand Island school board on Monday afternoon that will explain why the district will need to take reduction in force (RIF) actions.

The report will be made during the board’s March meeting, which was moved to Monday because students and most staff for the Grand Island public schools were on spring break this past week.

The start time has been moved up an hour to 5:30 p.m. because it is expected that discussions on the budget issues will require an extra-long meeting.

Harden’s report is expected to list the number of full-time equivalent positions to be RIF’ed, as well as corresponding spending reductions. It also is expected to identify programs, program staffing and other spending to be either eliminated or scaled back for the 2011-12 academic and fiscal year.  Full Story
