G.I. school board to discuss alternative education program

A report on a program that would greatly expand the number of students receiving alternative education will be presented to the Grand Island school board Thursday night.

Nancy Schisler from the district’s teaching and learning department and Walnut Middle School Principal Rod Foley will present the report.

The expanded programs would target students classified as “alternative learners” and in need of dropout prevention and dropout recovery, as well as students who are not succeeding in school because they are causing major classroom disruptions.

One program would serve 45 to 60 sixth- through eighth-graders who need dropout prevention and are alternative learners.  Full Story
