G.I. school board to be asked for approval of interlocal truancy prevention agreement

GRAND ISLAND —
The
Grand Island school board will be asked Thursday night to approve an
interlocal agreement with Hall County and the Hall County attorney for
truancy prevention.
Under terms of the agreement, the Hall County attorney's office will
provide an average of 18 hours per week in services that include:
-- Working with Grand Island Public Schools social workers in
developing a school intervention plan for attendance by elementary and
middle school students;
-- Identifying a target student population for the intervention plan;
-- Developing a diversion program as a means of remedying student absenteeism;
-- Facilitating meetings between the child, the child's parents and/or
guardians, and school personnel in an effort to reduce excessive
absenteeism;
