G.I. school board to approve budget, tax levies Thursday

The Grand Island school board will be asked to approve both the 2011-12 budget and the property tax levies needed to support that budget during its September board meeting Thursday night.
This year's general fund levy is $1.04 per hundred dollars of property value, while its special building fund is just 1 cent, compared to 5 cents per hundred dollars of value last year. The net effect is to leave those two combined levies unchanged from a year ago.
The levies for the qualified capital purpose undertaking fund, which is used for specific purposes such as improving handicap accessibility and removing asbestos from school, and for the bond fund, both declined slightly.
