The Grand Island school board officially approved its goals for the coming school year and beyond during its regular monthly meeting Thursday night.

Those goals include

- Developing a model for a continuous calendar to be offered as an option for schools who deem it educationally beneficial. The model will be developed by this December, with a pilot program scheduled to begin in fall 2011.

- Increasing the graduation rate, with a goal of first measuring the average for Nebraska's graduation rate, then improving to a graduation rate of 90 percent. The graduation rate measures freshman who enroll, then graduate precisely four years later.  Full Story
