GISH students prepare to leave their mark at Harvest of Harmony

Marching band practices at Grand Island Senior High in the week leading up to Harvest of Harmony are just not the same.
According to band members Sarah Mirza, Erica McMahon and Danielle Mettenbrink, everybody connected with marching band is at once more focused and more uptight as the annual parade and field competition day approaches.
McMahon said band members feel more pressure in the week leading up to Harvest of Harmony.
Mirza said that’s especially true when Senior High band members consider Harvest of Harmony to be a “home game,” when they perform before a large contingent of Grand Island residents in addition to all the visitors who come to town.
For Mirza, a trumpet player, and McMahon, a trombone player, this week’s practices leading up to Harvest of Harmony also are special because each is a senior. Mirza said that, when she was an underclassman, she always thought she wanted to do well out of respect for seniors in the band, actually recalling the names of specific seniors whom she wanted to honor with a good performance at Harvest of Harmony.
