How excited were Grand Island’s teachers about the first day of school?

So excited that at least one teacher at Starr Elementary did a cartwheel to welcome students to another school year. That was all part of a red-carpet welcome to make Starr students feel like movie stars.

As students walked into the school on the red carpet, Starr teachers snapped their photographs as though the students were glitterati arriving at the Academy Awards.

Superintendent Steve Joel missed that action because he was at Barr Middle School shortly before 8 a.m. to watch sixth-graders being welcomed into that building by the traditional “tunnel walk.” As part of that ceremony, staff members — including kitchen staff — formed a human tunnel for students to walk through.  Full Story
