Event gets parents, kids reading together

The Wasmer students thought they were just having fun with their parents after hours at the school. Actually, they were not only learning, but also teaching their parents how to help them learn.
From 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, the students and their parents played reading and spelling games on computers, literacy board games and had stations where volunteers read to the students.
Wasmer Principal Betty Desaire said the night was not only to encourage kids to read more, but also to help parents know how they can help.
