Dancing kicks off Read Across America Day

Dancers with The Extreme Team at Smitty's Performing Arts Center are "wild about dancing."

That fits right in with a motto at Shoemaker Elementary where Principal Toni Palmer encourages students to be "wild about learning."

So it was perhaps fitting for dancers from The Extreme Team to put on a four-dance performance Monday afternoon to kick off the "Read Across America" celebration officially observed each year on March 2, which is the birthday for beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss.

Tim Smith, the owner of Smitty's Dance Studio, told Shoemaker students his dancers not only study dance techniques, but also study the history of dance. He said that requires his dancers to read.  Full Story
