Competition tough in spelling contest

"We got the best spellers."

That was the reaction of Wood River Superintendent Cindy Huff, who in her alternate role as Hall County Superintendent oversees the annual Hall County Spelling Contest.
For years, Saturday was the traditional day for the spelling competition. But Huff began to believe that busy student schedules on Saturdays were preventing some excellent spellers from participating. That's why this year's contest was on a Tuesday.

By the time Keoni Kelley of Cedar Hollow was crowned the Hall County Spelling Champion, Huff sounded like a person who was ready to schedule the 2013 Hall County on a school day as well.

"We had two more schools and 48 students," said Huff, who noted the number of students who attended this year's spelling competition was about one-third more than last year.  Full Story
