Community members, school board members and Grand Island Public Schools staff were among the people who attended a reception Thursday evening for Harrison Cass, who has served as Grand Island's interim superintendent for the past year.
The reception was held just prior to Cass's final school board meeting. His final work day with the district is to be June 20.
During the board meeting, Cass said that before his work ends, he plans to meet with Rob Winter, Grand Island's new superintendent, to work on the transition. Winter's first official day in the district is July 1.
Cass said he wanted to thank the Grand Island school board for giving him the opportunity to work as interim superintendent, noting that he is an "old war horse" who does not have school administration work completely out of his system yet.
