Card project seeks to start 'Attitude of Gratitude'

The Boys & Girls Club of Central Nebraska is working on a community service project to help teach Grand Island elementary students the importance of saying "thank you."

Mary Ingram, who became executive director last November, said students in the club first cut apart 1,600 "thank you" cards designed by Andrew Westling, who drew 12 designs with illustrations that complement the printed message.

"Making a point to say ... Thank you" has a drawing of a cactus, famed for its pointed needles. The "Cheers for You!" card has an illustration of a cheerleader. "Thanks to you ... I am one step closer to SUCCESS" is illustrated by a boy climbing stairs. "I think you're COOL!" shows an Eskimo standing outside an igloo.

After cutting all the cards apart, the students sorted them into groups of 12, with the goal of placing 120 cards in a box. Fourteen boxes will then be sent to Grand Island's elementary schools.  Full Story
