Incoming Mayor Jay Vavricek is recommending Grand Island's finance director, Mary Lou Brown, be named interim city administrator.

Brown has served as finance director since July 2009 and previously served as the director of bankruptcy claims as a member of the Adelphia Bankruptcy Team in Englewood, Colo.

"Her experience in the private sector is a good foundation," Vavricek said of the appointment. "Secondly, she's been at City Hall long enough to know the inner workings of that really well and work well with department heads.

"And then I obviously know that she's intelligent and she's a good communicator and I have a lot of faith and confidence in her," he said.

Vavricek is recommending that Brown's $90,000 a year salary be boosted to $112,000 a year while she is carrying out both the finance director and city administrator duties.  Full Story
