GRAND ISLAND —
Chief Industries executive D.J. Eihusen saw a mixture of the familiar and the new as he served as Principal for a Day at Starr Elementary on Tuesday.

Eihusen was one of 14 Principals for a Day who spent an entire school day in various Grand Island schools, including 10 elementary buildings, all three middle schools and Senior High.

The familiar started with the opening of the school day, as Starr students gathered in the gym and sat on the floor by grade. As Principal for a Day, Eihusen led the kids in saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

"I started with ’I' and the kids took it from there," said Eihusen, who noted it had been years since he had recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

The new came next, with students reciting the Purple Hands Pledge: "I will not use my hands or my words to hurt myself or others."  Full Story
