The Grand Island public schools are receiving $2.4 million in IDEA funds as part of the federal stimulus package, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, according to the Nebraska Department of Education.

The Grand Island public schools are also scheduled to receive $1.1 million in Title I funds as part of the stimulus package. That announcement was made on Thursday by U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson’s office.

Northwest public schools are scheduled to receive an additional $355,000 in IDEA money and an additional $129,000 in Title I funds.

Jim Werth, Grand Island assistant superintendent for student services, cautioned that the IDEA figure is “what we expected to get over two years.”  Full Story
