GRAND ISLAND —
Principal Kent Mann hit the right note for Thursday's midterm graduation at Grand Island Senior High.
He congratulated people for coming to the ceremony on a dark and
possibly even stormy day, but noted the weather "will not dampen the
celebration that is about to begin."
The audience was indeed in a celebratory mood as it watched 16 seniors
-- two people could not participate in Thursday's ceremony -- receive
their diplomas as the first graduates of the Grand Island Senior High
Class of 2009.
Entering to the music of "Pomp and Circumstance," the students followed
Mann, Superintendent Steve Joel, class president Kara Brostrom, and
school board members Lynn Cronk, Clay Schutz, Susan Bullington and
Bonnie Hinkle into the Senior High auditorium.
The students took their seats following the presentation of colors by
the Air Force Junior ROTC, then watched as fellow senior Sierra Sanchez
took the stage to sing the Kelly Clarkson song, "Breakaway."
