Westridge Middle School students win regional Academic Quiz Bowl competition
Westridge Middle School's Quiz Bowl Team placed first out of 64 teams at the regional Academic Quiz Bowl competition March 3 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Student Union, Westridge Integration Specialist Stacy Vogel said.
Westridge's team is comprised of sixth- through eighth-grade students. Team members were: Seth Redwine and Clark Pohlmeier, co-captains; and Ryan Williams, Blaine Morrow, Shae Lott, Jake Sattley, Tanner Shuck, and Chandler Cox. Vogel is the teamís coach.
Westridge defeated teams from Elm Creek, Shelton, Arnold, and Cozad. Westridge stayed in the winner's bracket until the last round, when it lost to Grand Island Northwest in the double elimination tournament. Because Westridge had no other losses, it faced Grand Island Northwest in another match and defeated the Northwest team to win the championship.
There is no state-level competition for the Academic Quiz Bowl, Vogel said.
