Westridge Middle School offering 'Fun in the Sun' activities for students
Westridge Middle School will provide "Fun in the Sun" (FITS) activities for its students on Thursday, May 27, Principal Dan Brosz said.
Activities are scheduled for sixth-graders from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. May 27, seventh-graders from 10:30 a.m. to noon May 27, and eighth-graders from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 27 at the school at 4111 W. 13th St.
"Each class will have approximately 90 minutes of 'Fun in the Sun.' We have 22 activities planned. The activities are both competitive and noncompetitive in nature. Each student will participate in approximately 15 activities in 90 minutes," Brosz said. The event is a team-builder for students and adults and a send-off for students at the end of the school year to welcome summer vacation.
The activities include: bean bag toss, egg relay, bowling, cha cha slide, cup "cake walk," cup stacking, dodge ball, darts, Frisbee throw, hula hoops, karaoke, knock-out, M&M relay, Oreo game, PenKnee race, egg roll, Plinko, "Scene It," scooter race, Guitar Hero, and three-legged race.
"Many of these are based on quick games featured on the TV show 'Minute to Win It,' "Brosz said.
Each grade level will celebrate with a picnic-on-the-green with grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, fruit, vegetable, and milk. Students will be encouraged to wear 1950s attire for the day.
"This is a first-time event for Westridge, and we hope to make it an annual tradition if everything goes according to the plan. In the event of rain, the activities will be moved indoors, and the name will be changed to 'Pain in the Rain,' " Brosz said.
Westridge parents and alumni will assist with the event.
