West Lawn Elementary School students compete in the Nebraska State Fair
A group of West Lawn Elementary School students called 12 K.I.D.S. competed in the 2009 Nebraska State Fair's Education Department division, said Wanda Stelk, the school's integration specialist.
The Nebraska State Fair was Aug. 28 through Sept. 7. The West Lawn students were fourth- and fifth-graders during the 2008-2009 school year who attended a reading class as part of the High Ability Learner program at the school. The students are also involved in a project to raise funds for new playground equipment at Grace Abbott Park. 12 K.I.D.S. is an acronym for 12 Kids in Direct Service.
The West Lawn students were the champions in the school sweepstakes division for elementary schools and were the reserve champions in the school sweepstakes division for Grades K-12.
