Wasmer, West Lawn students will present Nebraska history play
Educator/artist Fax Gilbert of Fairfield, Iowa, will work with fourth-grade students at West Lawn Elementary School on Thursday, April 15, and at Wasmer Elementary School on Friday, April 16, to produce the "Great Nebraska History Play," culminating with a 2 p.m. performance each day.
Gilbert works with students in the morning to prepare several scenes of a play about Nebraska history that could include topics such as Native American life, pioneer living, the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, immigrant migration, and early schools. He provides all costumes, curtains, props, and music for the play.
Participating in the play allows students the chance to practice their speaking, fluency, and listening skills, as well as learn about Nebraska history.
