Wasmer Elementary School hosting artist-in-residence
Grand Island artist Nancy Fairbanks will conduct a five-day residency at Wasmer Elementary School from Feb. 18 through Feb. 22.
Fairbanks
will introduce basic pottery techniques to fourth-graders while sharing
her knowledge of Pawnee Indian customs, said Patty Brown, a Wasmer
fourth-grade teacher who helped arrange for the residency for the
"Pottery with the Pawnee" project.
A grant from the Nebraska
Arts Council is supporting the residency. Brown and Carol Bryant, grant
development facilitator for the school district, prepared the grant
application.
The Nebraska Arts Council grants funding to
Nebraska's nonprofit organizations for arts projects and programs in
communities throughout the state. This financial support is made
possible by funds appropriated by the Nebraska Legislature and through
competitive grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal
agency. Nebraskans wishing to learn more about these grants should
visit the NAC Web site at www.nebraskaartscouncil.org.
