Walnut students compete in MATHCOUNTS
Walnut Middle School students placed second at the Midstate Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition Feb. 14 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Preston Fegley, a seventh-grader, placed second individually, said coaches Sallie Alberts and Sarah Miller, who teach at Walnut. Kuulei Hose, Susanna Zach, Donald Nabity, and Josh Mathews placed in the top 20% individually.
Austin Koeller, Sarah Quezada, and Kyle Ward also represented Walnut at the competition.
Fegley, Nabity, Hose, and Zach are eligible to compete at the state competition on March 15 in Lincoln. Nabity and Hose will be flying to Washington, D.C., that day as part of Walnut's D.C. Diplomats, so they will not be available to compete. Fegley and Zach are available to compete in Lincoln, Alberts said.
MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment, coaching, and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state.
