Walnut Middle School sponsoring Outdoor Expo

Walnut Middle School's sixth annual Outdoor Expo will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the school at 1600 N. Custer Ave., said Jeff Westerby, a Walnut counselor.
Numerous hands-on activities will be available for pre-kindergarten through middle school students. There is no admission fee, and all activities are free.

Some of the activities planned include archery, dog training, soap carving, turkey calling, outdoor games, fly rod casting, fly tying, a casting contest, making pet rocks, making an outdoor scrapbook page, building squirrel feeders, making flower pots, an online treasure hunt, and a GPS treasure hunt.

These organizations will have information booths and activities at the Outdoor Expo: Ducks Unlimited/Greenwings, Pheasants Forever/Ringnecks, National Wild Turkey Federation/Jakes, Grand Island Parks and Recreation Department, Central Platte NRD, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Hunter Ed Program, Rowe Sanctuary, Audubon Society, and the Grand Island Public Library.

Concessions will be available. There will be a free raffle for all attendees 15 and under to win a free Nebraska lifetime fishing permit valued at more than $350.
