Walnut Middle School is hosting Civil War re-enactors on Wednesday, April 22, said English teacher Dawn Haymart.
The event will be from 8 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on a field at the school at 1600 N. Custer Ave.
Students in each of the two eighth-grade teams will attend the event in shifts.
Students will be given opportunities to have first-hand learning experiences about various aspects of the Civil War.
Walnut's eighth-graders will be divided into groups and will rotate among stations for different experiences. One group will experience marching and drills. Another group will discover what life was like in a camp. The third group will observe a medical/doctors' tent. The fourth group will learn about artillery and how to fire a cannon.
At the conclusion of the activities, the re-enactors will fire a cannon.
