Vocal music concerts planned at Walnut Middle School

Walnut Middle School's seventh- and eighth-graders will present vocal music concerts Tuesday, May 6, and Friday, May 9, in the school's auditorium at 1600 N. Custer.

The May 6 concert will feature student performance of a show called "American Pop Forever," said vocal music teacher Kay Lyons. The May 6 concert will be offered at 2:25 p.m. for students and parents who cannot attend the evening performance and again at 7 p.m. May 6.

Grand Island Senior High School student Michael Rivera will be the emcee for the May 6 show, which will feature music from the 1950s through the music of today.

During the program, featured soloists, dancers, and small groups will be featured. Some "guest" artists will be Elvis, the Supremes, Rocky, Billy Joel, and the YMCA guys. The program will last approximately 65 minutes.

The eighth-grade chorus, eighth-grade swing choir, and selected soloists will perform a variety of musical selections in the May 9 concert. The eighth-grade show choir will perform a "Tribute to Queen," and the eighth-grade chorus will perform theme songs from several movies and inspirational selections. The program will conclude with the eighth-grade "Memories Slide Show." The matinee performance of the May 9 concert begins at 2:10 p.m. for students and parents who cannot attend the evening performance, and again at 7 p.m. May 9.

The public is welcome to attend the concerts, and there is no admission charge. Cheryl Twiestmeyer is the accompanist for both concerts.
