Veterans Day program scheduled at Howard and Lincoln Elementary Schools

Dan Holtz, a professor of English at Peru State College, will present a Veterans Day program on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Howard and Lincoln Elementary Schools, Howard Principal Julie Schnitzler said.

Holtz will speak at Howard Elementary School at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 and at Lincoln Elementary School at 1 p.m. Nov. 11.
The Nebraska Humanities Council is sponsoring Holtz's appearances.

Holtz is a native of Ord and is in his 23rd year as professor of English at Peru State College. In addition to his love for reading, Holtz likes to play tennis and is a long-time Nebraska football fan. He lives in Nebraska City with his wife, Alice. They have two adult sons.

Holtz is the recipient of the 2000 Nebraska State College System Teaching Excellence Award and the co-director of Peru State's Trails and Tales Tour and Teacher Institute, a cross-disciplinary program in Nebraska history and literature offered in the summers of 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004.

He has performed and presented programs for civic organizations and elementary and secondary schools across Nebraska as well as at the Nebraska State Capitol, the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer, Scottsbluff National Monument and the John Neihardt Center. He also appeared at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in July 1999 and at the Bob Devaney Center for the state quarter dedication ceremony in 2006.
