Shoemaker Elementary School students raise money for Red Cross efforts in Haiti

Shoemaker Elementary School students have raised $587 to donate to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in Haiti, Principal Toni Palmer said.

Shoemaker's Student Ambassadors organized the fund-raising event called "Pay for PJs: Make a Haitian Donation" during the week of Jan. 25-30. Four classes had 100 percent participation. Students could wear pajamas to school for a day if they donated $1 to the Red Cross.

Shoemaker's Student Ambassadors coordinate a community service project every month, Palmer said.
