Shoemaker Elementary School hosting open house to showcase building addition
Shoemaker Elementary School will host an open house from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, so the public can tour a recently completed addition to the school, Principal Toni Palmer said.
The 22,000-square-foot addition includes 12 classrooms, a speech room, a resource room, a boys restroom, and a girls restroom, said Dan Petsch, Grand Island Public Schools building and grounds coordinator.
Improvements made at the school include a new polyurethane gym floor system, interior and exterior security camera system, a new paved entrance with drop-off and pick-up lanes, and a separate paved staff parking lot.
The "annex" building that was south of the school at 4160 Old Potash Highway has been removed, which has increased visibility of the school.
