Shoemaker Elementary School 2nd-graders presenting ‘reading restaurant’

Shoemaker Elementary School second-graders are hosting a “reading restaurant” from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at the school, Principal Lee Wolfe said.

Students portraying restaurant servers, wearing dark pants and white shirts, will “serve” reading delicacies including poems, short stories, and sections from books as “menu” items to parents and community guests. “Customers” will be paired with a student, and the student will read various items to the customers. The students’ second-grade classrooms at the school at 4160 Old Potash Highway will be decorated like restaurants.

The purposes of the event are to promote reading, build reading skills, share reading with adults, and practice reading fluency.
