Seedling Mile Elementary School hosting Young Author's Day on Sept. 20

Seedling Mile Elementary School students will participate in a Young Author's Day on Monday, Sept. 20, at the school featuring award-winning Nebraska author N.L. Sharp of Fremont, Principal Steve Retzlaff said.

The event is the first of two half-day school visits with students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Sharp will work with students again on April 18, 2011.

The three presentations for students and one afterschool session for teachers will target the six traits of writing and the writing process.

Sharp has written four children's books: "Today I'm Going Fishing with My Dad," "The Ring Bear," "Effie's Image," and "The Flower Girl/The Ring Bear: A Flip-Over Book."

Funding for the project was provided through a Classroom Mini-Grant from the Grand Island Education Foundation. Seedling Mile teachers Susan Stoeger and Nancy Chavez prepared the application.
