Nieves became fascinated with reptiles and amphibians starting at
age 8 when he was growing up in Bellevue, Nebr. Now, Nieves travels to
other countries to research and photograph these creatures.
He has written two non-fiction children's books: "Reptiles Up Close" and "More Reptiles Up Close." Nieves presents programs at schools, libraries, zoos, nature centers, and museums.
Nieves will lead student assemblies at these times:
*9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Nov. 27: kindergarten and first grade
*12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 27: second and third grades
*1:40 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 27: fourth and fifth grades
Nieves also may visit with preschool students at Jefferson for approximately 15 minutes on Nov. 27.
The event for Jefferson students and their families will begin at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 27 in the school's gym, Fiala said.
