Preschool, Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle School, and High School Registration
Children who will be 5 years old by Oct. 15 are eligible to register for kindergarten at designated schools. If parents are uncertain which school their child will attend, they may call the Grand Island Public Schools Kneale Administration Building at 385-5900 or check school maps for attendance centers by location.
Parents are asked to bring to registration their child's birth certificate and Social Security number. The names and birthdates of all brothers and sisters, proof of physical examinations and immunizations (if available), and the name and address of someone other than parents to contact in case of emergency are also required. By state law, physical examinations, vision examinations, and immunizations are required for all students entering school.
It is extremely important for parents to register their children this spring so the schools can plan for fall classes. If you cannot register on theses dates, it is important that you contact your neighborhood school to make other arrangements.
Preschool Registration
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Early Learning Center, 4360 W. Capital Ave.
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Early Learning Center, 4360 W. Capital Ave.
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Early Learning Center, 4360 W. Capital Ave.
Traditional School Calendar
Kindergarten and 1st through 5th Grade Registration
2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, for students whose last names begin with A through H
2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, for students whose last names begin with K through Q
2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 19, for students whose last names begin with R through Z
Location: All kindergarten registrations on May 17 through May 19 will occur at the students’ respective elementary schools.
9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, for students entering
kindergarten other than at Howard Elementary School
Location: The July
28 kindergarten registration will occur at the students’ respective
elementary schools.
Continuous School Calendar Registration
Kindergarten and 1st through 5th Grade Registration
1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23, for only Howard Elementary School students entering kindergarten with classes beginning Wednesday, July 13, for continuous school calendar schedule at Howard Elementary School

Middle School Registration for Students Entering 6th Grade through 8th Grade
11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 25, for students entering 8th grade
11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, for students entering 7th grade
11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, for students entering 6th grade
Locations: Students register at the middle school they will attend: Barr Middle School, Walnut Middle School, or Westridge Middle School
High School Registration for Students Entering 9th Grade through 12th Grade
Noon to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, in the Commons Area at Grand Island Senior High School
Noon to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, in the Commons Area at Grand Island Senior High School
Noon to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 4, in the Commons Area at Grand Island Senior High School
