Principal Financial Group Foundation awards grant funding to G.I. Public Schools
The Principal Financial Group Foundation has awarded a $1,500 grant to Grand Island Public Schools for West Lawn Elementary School.
West Lawn will use the funding for a reading project where students will “travel” around the world through reading and other activities during the 2010-2011 school year. Principal Financial Group is West Lawn’s business partner.
Each student will receivea reading passport. When the student finishes reading a book about a continent, a sticker will be awarded to place in the passport. The project will connect to after-school opportunities for students seven times during the 2010-2011 school year. West Lawn’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will feature an event with games from around the world in April 2011 to link to the project.
Carol Bryant, grant development facilitator for the Grand Island Public Schools, and West Lawn Principal Jane Gloor submitted the grant application with the Grand Island Education Foundation as the grant applicant.
