Open house scheduled to honor G.I. Public Schools Board of Education Member Lynn Cronk
An open house to honor Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education Member Lynn Cronk will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in the Challenge Center meeting room at the school district’s Kneale Administration Building, 123 S. Webb Road.
Cronk has served on the school district’s Board of Education for 16 years, including 11 years as president. The reception is just prior to her last meeting as a Board of Education member.
She was elected in November to serve on the State Board of Education and took the oath of office on Jan. 6 in Lincoln.
Cronk decided not to seek re-election in 2010 to the Grand Island Public Public Schools Board of Education to represent Ward C. Tonja Broadwell was elected in November 2010 for the position and will take the oath of office as a Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education member just after the start of the Jan. 13 meeting.
Cronk chaired a community committee that successfully campaigned in 2005 for a $19.95 million bond issue to construct a new Westridge Middle School at 4111 W. 13th St. and to construct classroom additions at Barr and Walnut Middle Schools.
Cronk serves on the Stuhr Museum Foundation Board of Trustees, the Grand Island Community Foundation Board of Directors, and the Grand Island TeamMates Mentoring Program Advisory Board. She is also a TeamMates mentor. Previously, she served on the Grand Island Multicultural Coalition Executive Board for six years and the Grand Island Education Foundation Board of Directors for nine years.
