Grand Island Senior High is participating in One Day Without Shoes today as part of an effort to raise money and donate shoes to TOMS Shoes or relief in Japan.
“I saw it online and decided that GISH should be a part of it,” GISH senior Cierra Kelly said. “I had to get approval from the principals and put it in the announcements so students would know about it.”
For $1 students will get a sticker which allows them to go without shoes for today. Anyone may also donate one dollar and still wear their shoes. Each donor is able to vote where the money will go, TOMS Shoes, or to the relief effort in Japan.
“I am so happy that our superintendent was excited and willing to do it,” Kelly said. “I think it’s important for the students because a lot of them go through their lives and don’t think about what others have to go through. It’s good for them to think about what it’s like for those people every once in a while.”
Kelly said people in the halls are saying it’s a great idea and that they are really excited to do it while others are saying it’s gross and can’t believe we aren’t wearing shoes. Full Story
